A factual geopolitical "diary" by Lesley Zore

YEREVAN: As Armenia demobilized following Kavkaz-2020 CSTO-aligned exercises, Azerbaijan answered border tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region with alleged artillery shelling. Armenia conducted an airstrike. Azerbaijan answered with an offensive. Azerbaijan was in the middle of exercising; a whole lot of the Turkish Armed Forces are present. Azerbaijan has pushed into the satellite region of Yerevan in the last few days, but cannot push any further due to mountainous terrain. Both sides are satisfied; Yerevan is glad with a stalemate and Baku took what he saw as takeable. Fierce clashes continue; Armenia with SAR-Kurd-Iran-CSTO support on one side, and Azerbaijan with much more condensed Turkish support on the other side.

WASHINGTON: There are news articles about a US-centered poll on the web. The news claim over 60% of US Americans think a second American civil war is coming. It seems the source is a far-right militia organization named the Proud Boys; the ones Trump told to "stand back, stand by". This article is probably a piece of far-right propaganda calling for a race war. Racist accelerationism must be stopped, no matter the price. Death to fascism!

MINSK: Though Cyprus had been vetoing this verdict for many weeks 'till the conclusion, the European Union has reportedly gained support of all member states to enforce sanctions on the Republic of Byelarus. Minsk threatens to blockade Lithuania in response. It seems those sanctions are directed to individuals only, but AlJazeera's reports are contradictory.(edited)

BAKU: Azerbaijan celebrates partial retreat of Nagorno-Karabakh forces while Armenia says it was a ‘trick’ that killed 200 ‘enemies’

Conflicting accounts from the two warring sides celebrate their own successes while keeping mum about setbacks as an Azerbaijani report of capture of three villages was met with Armenian claims of eliminating 200 enemy troops. Azeri Min. of Defence stated that Azerbaijani forces had destroyed an Armenian ammunition depot in Ballıca. and released footage apparently showing the destruction of Armenian materiel. ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Tuesday commented with dissatisfaction on international efforts to tackle the Azeri-Armenian conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

-

-

BAKU: Speaking during a visit to the Azeri capital Baku on Tuesday, Cavusoglu voiced their fears that a ceasefire alone would not be sufficient to end the primarily ethnic Azeri-Armenian conflict; this constitutes one more Turkish appeal to the ethnic tensions as a justification for Ankara's intervention in the Lower Caucasus.

-

-

PARIS: Minsk Group, tasked with resolving the Donbass conflict and the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire violations, failed to secure a truce in Lower Caucasus today after Azeri representation requests guarantees in exchange for a truce. Armenia also denied to accept a ceasefire agreement as presented, referring to its claims to territories taken by azeri forces in the last few days

Ouagadougou: Citizens of Burkina Faso in poorest areas unable to vote in the upcoming election as political instability prompts violence into the region and disrupts the internationally recognized administration. Al Jazeera: "Wracked by a worsening conflict pitting government forces and international troops against various armed groups linked to ISIL and al-Qaeda, the country’s government ruled it unsafe for registration to take place in 17.4 percent of its electoral communes. As a result, more than 400,000 people were unable to register for the November 22 vote."(edited)

ATHENS: Golden Dawn party, a radical far-right Greek political core party, was found responsible for hosting an extremist organization, which conducted crimes of murder, and is unofficially a suspect to crimes of discriminatory, sexual and similar nature. "The members shall receive the worst punishment you can imagine", Lesley Zore states. This incident, now almost a rule, follows Golden Dawn's catastrophic failure at the latest parliamentary election. Al Jazeera: "The courtroom and more than 10,000 anti-racism protesters outside the courthouse, who had been demanding a guilty verdict for hours before the result was announced, cheered when the judges revealed their decision.

But the mood turned sour as police were quick to release tear gas and use water cannons to disperse crowds. Witnesses said people were seen gasping as the tear gas filled the air." Regardless of this success, conservatism, tradition and far-right institutionalization have a strong grip in the Greek society. Lesley Geopolitical will not stick to objectivity when it comes to far-right extremism and crimes such as ones committed by the Golden Dawn. Same far-right tendencies as in Greece are sadly present in most countries, including those opposed to Greece.(edited)

BISHKEK: After Kyrgyzstan parliament was stormed, Armed Forces and other forms of State-administered security are losing control as opposition takes over the streets. Is this the beginning of a swift coup d'etat, a civil war, or will it calm down with time? Let us observe Kyrgyzstan closely as it descends into mob rule. Seemingly random initiatives have been taking over positions of government by force, installing local administrations. However, those initiatives do not seem to cooperate well as they keep storming each-other as well. BBC: "Several co-ordination councils have been formed to enforce order on the streets and to carry out a transfer of power. Each of them claims to represent authority during the transition period." It certainly does seem that a coup is taking place. Wikipedia: "One group protesting in Bishkek managed to free ex-President Atambayev from jail on either 5 or 6 October, where he had been serving an 11-year-and-two-month sentence for corruption since June. Protestors also occupied the building housing the parliament and presidential administration. There were also reports that part of the parliament building was set ablaze. Protests continued throughout the day, eventually resulting in the death of one person and around 590 people being injured. A further few hundred were injured on the following day as well as protests continued. Following continued protests, the results were annulled by the Central Election Commission one day later. Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov and parliament speaker Dastan Jumabekov also tendered their resignation on 6 October. The parliament announced opposition figure Sadyr Zhaparov of the nationalist Patriotic party as acting Prime Minister, and Myktybek Abdyldayev as the new speaker of parliament. Zhaparov had been serving an 11-year and six-month prison sentence for taking a government official hostage in 2013 until his appointment. The mayors of Bishkek and Osh, as well as the governors of the Naryn, Talas, and Issyk-Kul regions also resigned. A group of 13 opposition parties said that they had formed the Coordinating Council of Popular Trust which would assume responsibility for formulating ideas to find a way out of the deadlock. It is unclear when new elections will be held." (yes, I cross-check wiki with sources, etc.)

ISKENDERUN & ANKARA: A forest fire that broke out in three districts of Turkey’s southern Hatay province continued to burn for a second day on Saturday, Mezopotamya Agency reported. A woodland region between the districts of Iskenderun, Belen and Arsuz caught on fire on Friday morning when a power transformer unit malfunctioned. Several neighbourhoods have been evacuated, as the fires spread rapidly towards residential areas due to strong winds.

Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli announced that seven apartment buildings, 11 houses, 14 businesses, eight factories, three warehouses and 35 bee hives had been affected. He said his ministry has launched an investigation into the possibility of sabotage.

Due to the continuing strong winds, firefighting aircrafts cannot be utilised so efforts continue on land, the minister said.

State-run Anadolu news agency reported on Saturday that the fire actually started across the border, in Syria’s northeastern Latakia province.

Anadolu accuses Syrian Arab Republic of possibly having started aforementioned fires by means of a military attack.

Nine plots in Hatay, including in the Arsuz and Belen districts, were designated as mining sites in August, and the Arsuz municipality at the time said the decision had been made “without any information on whether they were currently pastures, woodlands, water sources or protected natural or archaeological sites.” “Mining in Belen would kill the forests. Mining in Arsuz would destroy farmlands,” Nermin Yıldırım Kara, chairwoman of the Iskenderun Environmental Protection Association, had told reporters.(edited)

LJUBLJANA: Lesley declares red alarm. The country of Slovenia leaves European economic model for Brito-American. All public agencies related to economics are being unified in a single agency for finances. This is a clear violation of the EU legislature, as this new agency is directly responsible to the Parliament and the Government and does not function independently and cannot prevent formation of complete monopolies. This practically bars low-budget local economic initiatives from having any role in Slovenian wider market.

Simultaneously, the government closes schools, isolates most of the country's regions and mandates masks on the street. It is thought that there will be little exceptions to those rules, and they will not take care of personal circumstances.

As Pompeo declares Turkey a country whose military exports to Armenia increased six fold in a year, Erdogan accuses Russia, US and France of all actively and selectively supplying Armenia. Nuclear blockade against Iran comes to an end. The arms embargo is canceled after the American calls for its extension. A reminder: in 2015, the Iranian nuclear deal aimed at preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power. In 2018, the US refrained from playing a serious role in the deal any longer. In the last year, US pressure against Iran increased many fold as Trump uses Iran as a talking point of controversy to gain more rhetoric from.

BAKU, YEREVAN: As fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region approached 5000 deaths according to the Russian Federation, this rhetorical figure seems to be expanded on by per enemy fatalities which can be summed up to 6614 Azeri soldiers killed, 397 civilians killed, 188 Syrian-Kurdish volunteers killed and at least 2000 Armenian soldiers. Thus, fatalities already exceed 9'000 deaths. The fighting has been ongoing for a month now.

YEREVAN: Pro-Armeni forces withdraw from last pockets of their resistance between the Azeri break-in in the southern front and the Iranian front. LJUBLJANA: Slovenian far-right government, which recently halted months of protests, is prompted to call for a referendum about its proposal to invest 780 million euros into the military. Slovenian state budget's yearly revenue is currently at 9 billion euros, with 13 billion expenses yearly. Additionally spending almost a billion on military (twice the usual yearly military budget) for tanks seems unreasonable to many, who see no point in the State of Slovenia having a military when it's protected by everyone. Disbanding the military or reorganizing it into emergency support units has been an alternative for some time now.

PARIS: Lesley Geopolitical Server did not find it necessary to comment on childish behaviour of certain nation-states condemning each-other for drawing caricatures and issuing economic blockades in relation to this. However, with Turkey now resorting to Legal Action threats and calls for International Community's blockade of France, Lesley Geopolitical News (https://discord.gg/d4y594K) has come to the verdict to voice its analysis on the matter. We do not take interest in which of the two sides has it right. We do, however, observe the worsening of Turko-French relations. Erdogan seems ready to use every single piece of material against France he has to worsen relations with the European Union. We see the unbelievable high support of Turkishg Troops for Azerbaijan, while France supplies the Armeni. We see Turkish war in Syria, where the EU was first sided with the Opposition but now refuses to fund the FSA. More prominently, we can observe the border tension between Turkey on one side and Greece, Cyprus on the other. Turkey has artificially distanced itself from its European allies. We can only wait for when Erdogan will use the way Angela Merkel dresses to sue the EU at the International Court of Justice. [Reuters, BBC, DT Next]

TRIPOLI, TOBRUK: GNA publishes accusations of mass burials against the Hafter Forces, who have lost the grounds of alleged graves in the latest GNA offensive supplied by Turkey. So far, Tripoli and Tobruk have exchanged many allegations and threats amid the Turkish intervention in the conflict, which followed the almost-victory of the East. With newest allegations threatening to break what little of a truce there is between the warring sides in what Libya has become, it is vital to notice how much of a hotspot of the conflict between Ankara and the outer world Libya has become. With Tripolitania and Cyrenaica covered with blood and death, it is only the question of time before either Moscow/Paris or Ankara/Washington decide to press on with their UAV strike force, mass bombings of civilian infrastructure and raids against humanitarian organizations in the region. ANKARA: Erdogan promises to launch a new offensive into "Rojava" areas of what is internationally recognized as Syrian Arab Republic, controlled by the SDF-YPG forces. Turkey continues to accuse libertarian left militias controlling Kurdish-majority regions in Levant of supporting the PKK's uprising against Turkey for some time now. Those allegations, although dismissed by both PKK and SDF-YPG, continue to be Erdogan's justification of the actions undertaken by the FSA in the region of Afrin some time ago and by Turkey itself in the region of Ra's al 'Ayn later on. Some hint or point at this speech being a response to the newest Opposition vs. SAA clashes in the Ildib front, though others point at this being an attempt by Ankara to justify another invasion into Kurdish-held areas of Syria. Erdogan as well published his accusations on the number of Kurdish volunteers to Armenia: 2 thousand, he says. [Hurriyet Daily News, Reuters, Daily Sabbath, National Post, Devidisource]

PARIS: Lesley's fears are confirmed as white supremacist groups begin to abuse the recent developments in Nice, France, to justify anger and violence. Islamophobia and ultranationalism, fueled by worsening of Turkish-European relations and the recent political pressure against immigration, must be condemned. GeoPolitical News has already reported on all these factors. As we can see, the cold war between the EU and Erdogan is receiving a new image: that of populist protests against everyone not fitting the AWD. @FOUNDER s of the Map Game server, Lesley of the https://discord.gg/d4y594K, and all our members, strongly discourage such behaviour from continuing. We call for an end to discriminatory violence which has seen a rise in recent years, be it islamophobic, racist, transphobic, ultranationalist or otherwise fascistoid. We condone terror of religious extremists, but as my history teacher once said... "It sure is possible for religiously-led fanatics of any belief to storm this place... We must, however, see the result such an action would provoke: the Glory to Slavs movement would never calm down ever again, and the sole mosque in the Capital would be engulfed in flames - just like the Slovenian house was in Trieste in the year of 1920. We acknowledge the current rates of ultranationalist violence in the region... So let us weight the casualties a terrorist attack would truly bring on each 'side'." At least as much as we condemnt the terrorist attack, we condemn the terror and exploatation conducted by the neo-nazi, ultra-capitalist, anti-egalitarian armed wing of the radical right. ADDIS ABEBA: Responding to an armed attack by an opposition party, the government of Ethiopia has declared a state of emergency in the Tigray region of 6 million people, ruled by that party. Armies have been sent to combat the rebellion in the region. Situation falls out of control as Tigray local government declares it's gained control of the Northern Command, which would promote this to a civil war in the country of 109 million people. Fierce fighting has already been reported. It seems that the rebellious region's ruling party is made of seperatist activists of the region who had previously been a part of the coalition with the ruling president. MINSK: Lukashenko accuses the Law & Justice party of Visegrad's Third Polish Republic of undermining his presidential position with clerical rhetorics and infiltrators, a so-called "Anti-Belarusian Fifth Column". We have decided to observe how much Lukashenko's rhetoric adapts to the situation. When talking with Moscow, he has been using pro-imperialist rhetorics, politely asking for loans. His rhetoric with the west is the opposite. He has stood up for women's rights and queer folks in poland following the sexist and transphobic bill ratified by Warsaw not long ago... Though his internal politics are sexist and transphobic themselves, and he would - most probably - approve that statement. Now he is referring to the fifth column as though he was some kind of a stalinist. The fifth column was a name for a fifth imaginary army of the Falangists in the Spanish Civil War. The term was referring to all internal enemies of the pro-left Spanish Republic... But not to rightists! It referred to Anarchists, to Trotskyists; though the name "trotskyist" was as well used for everyone who was of a different leftist orientation than the state. It is interesting to observe Alexandr Lukashenka turn to rhetorics, intended to attract leftier audiences. [understandingwar]

LJUBLJANA: In the Slovenian Capital, protests broke out yesterday. Individuals who do not believe coronavirus exists gathered in the city center. There were around 200 of them. They were throwing bricks, using smoke grenades and firing small rockets. It has been independently shown the ruling party has had a lot to do with cooperating with certain provokators inside the protest. SWAT units, a water cannon and a helicopter were used to disperse the crowd. This has been ongoing in Czechia, Italy, and now Visegrad states for some time. Worried by violence between these groups and the state, but also worried about the negative stigma this will bring to people who factually cannot wear masks, we condemn those protests limitlessly. The Slovenian government has publicly blamed Anonymous Slovenia for the attack. Yep, they blamed an ideology. And the media. Of course, the media is both guilty for COVID-19 and denies its existence? It also seems that a combination of protesters and heavily armed police units beat a photographer/journalist to unconsciousness for taking photographs of special forces and asking the demonstrators "tricky questions". WASHINGTON D.C.: It seems that Joe Biden has been capable of first arriving at 270 electors with too much difference for elector dishonesty or similar tactics to work in favor of Donald Trump. Currently, a normal and peaceful transition of power seems probable. As said already, we are not interested in American elections any more than in Georgian, Ivory Coast, Tanzanian or other currently destabilizing political struggles. We condemn both prominent US presidential candidates in regards to many crimes of theirs, including ones for which we wish a penalty was enforced: a penalty which Discord does not let us discuss. However, we congratulate the US on giving neo-nazi terrorist cells 0.1% less funding from now on. Not much will change. Neoliberalism continues. As of now, many have congratulated Biden, but some congratulated Trump before winning - like Slovenian Premier. The new Vice-President is to be noted as well: shall the 77-year old Biden die mid-term, the US will have the first woman, the first feminist, the first socdem, the first non-nationalist president in its history. Also let us note ultranationalist rebels starting to form their own, destructive, voice across the country, now angry as their main lighthouse president leaves the scene. Arrests of ultranationalists trying to rebel against the electoral results began already. The Secret Service has responded and installed sufficient protections for Joe Biden. However, so far, this has been insignificant, and has been overshadowed by Biden's supporters. [Reuters, The Guardian, NBC News, Slovenian RT, Al Jazeera, TASS]
